‘Second Service’ tennis news: Rafael Nadal ‘excited’ ahead of his first ATP Finals in Turin, Alexander Zverev targeting December return

Looking back on the big tennis news in our exclusive ‘Second Service’… Rafael Nadal is excited about his first ATP Finals in Turin as Alexander Zverev targets December return, and more.

To start this tennis news roundup, Rafael Nadal says he is ‘excited’ to be playing the ATP Finals this year after missing out when Turin hosted it for the first time.

Nadal, who has remarkably never won the event, has had a very tough second half of the year due to an abdominal injury.

He is now in Italy and has had a practice session against Taylor Fritz, who he beat in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon, and he is looking forward to the tournament.

In other tennis news, Alexander Zverev is eying a December return to tennis as he stepped up his comeback from injury.

Zverev has had a tough year after tearing ligaments in his foot in his French Open semi-final against Rafael Nadal.

He initially targeted the Davis Cup in September for his return, but an edema on his foot put paid to those plans.

Now, brother Mischa, who is also part of his coaching team, has confirmed Alexander Zverev is close to a return, starting with the Diriyah Tennis Cup exhibition event in Saudi Arabia in December and continuing into the new United Cup before the Australian Open.

Furthermore, Andy Murray predicts a ‘bright future’ for youngsters Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu.

Murray, the three-time Grand Slam champion, was confident about both going on to have great careers.

He told Evening Sport, ‘’Jack has got huge potential and only done six or seven months on tour. I’ve been lucky enough to practise with him and spend time with him.’’

“The future’s really bright for him but also with Emma Raducanu. And there’s a couple of junior prospects on the women’s side that the coaches are pretty excited about.”
