Carlos Alcaraz continues to tear down records with each passing week, with the Spaniard on track to one day be recognised as the greatest player ever.
After all, with seven major titles already at just 22 years old, he already has more Grand Slams than any of the Big Three did at his age.
Just last month, he completed the career Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open, but there is now another near-impossible achievement that could potentially beckon for Carlos Alcaraz: the calendar Grand Slam.
Samu Lopez, his coach, has now discussed the possibility of him managing it.
Samu Lopez says if Carlos Alcaraz can create more history
The concept of the calendar Grand Slam is simple: winning all four major titles in the same year. However, the execution has proven tricky.
Throughout the entire Open Era, only three players have ever managed it, with Rod Laver the first, then Margaret Court, and most recently Steffi Graf in 1988.
Do you believe Carlos Alcaraz is already the greatest tennis player of all time?
However, given Alcaraz’s dominant start to the new season, many are wondering whether he could be the latest.
Lopez certainly thinks so, as he argued: “The challenge would be to go for all four Grand Slams. It’s ambitious, but possible.
“The first few weeks have been marked by Carlos’ total commitment to the preseason. He has shown great attention, intensity in training, and an open attitude to listening and allowing himself to be helped.”
Even the likes of Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic were unable to accomplish this feat, although both did hold all four Grand Slam titles at once.
Remembering Steffi Graf’s 1988 Calendar Grand Slam
If Alcaraz were to accomplish this truly historic feat this year, he would be the first to do so in nearly 30 years.
Graf was the last, having beaten some of the sport’s most iconic names on the way to this legendary triumph.

She began by beating Chris Evert in the final of the Australian Open, winning the title without dropping a single set throughout the tournament.
The legendary German followed that up with a French Open final drubbing, defeating Natasha Zvereva in just 34 minutes, 6-0, 6-0. It was the shortest and most one-sided Grand Slam tournament final ever.
Arguably Graf’s greatest challenge was to dethrone Martina Navratilova at Wimbledon, who had won the last six iterations of the event.
Can Carlos Alcaraz win MORE Grand Slams than Novak Djokovic? 🤔
Despite trailing 7–5, 2–0 in the final, Graf fought back to win 5–7, 6–2, 6–1.
She completed the set in New York, overcoming Gabriela Sabatini in the final. Graf would beat the Argentine again later that year to win Olympic gold, capping off one of the greatest tennis seasons of all time.
