Rafael Jodar has advanced to the Wimbledon second round after comfortably beating British player Felix Gill.
It was a routine affair for the Spanish prodigy, who beat the home favourite 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 on Monday afternoon.
As a result, Jodar has now secured his first victory in the Wimbledon Men’s Singles event.
Can Rafael Jodar fill the void left by Carlos Alcaraz?
He's certainly stepped up in his absence so far…
Jodar, who only turned professional at the start of this year, has emerged as one of the brightest young talents on the Tour – perhaps a future challenger to the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Ryan Harrison, the former world number 40, has offered his thoughts on Jodar’s potential on the ATP Tour.
Ryan Harrison predicts Rafael Jodar will be a top five player on the ATP Tour
“I think he’s going to occupy one of those top five spots, the way that we’ve seen Sascha Zverev, Sinner and Alcaraz,” Harrison, the 2017 French Open Men’s Doubles champion, stated while commentating for the BBC.

“I’m putting this guy as another top five mainstay, really starting next year or the year after.”
The co-commentator then remarked: “It’s a big call, it’s a good call, I like it. I think for me Ryan, I think his mentality gives him a great chance to do that.
“It’s one thing having the talent, but I don’t see him having a bad match, a bad week. I think he’s going to be on it relentlessly, and that gives him a chance of getting to the top and staying there.”
Harrison later added: “It’s not out of the question he could finish this year top 10 in the world.
“I actually think that, if you had to tell me over/under 12 or 13, I would say he could finish in the top 10 and will finish in the top 12 or 13.”
Jodar, the world number 26, will play compatriot Pablo Carreno Busta in the Wimbledon second round.

Carreno Busta, a US Open semi-finalist and former world number 10, advanced to the second round after beating Canadian player Denis Shapovalov.
Jodar and Carreno Busta have already played each other once before, despite Jodar only turning professional at the beginning of this year.
Jodar rallied from two sets down to defeat Carreno Busta at the 2026 French Open, winning 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 in the fourth round.
If Jodar advances to the third round, he will play one of Shintaro Mochizuki, Ethan Quinn or 14th seed Luciano Darderi.
Rafael Jodar makes Spanish tennis history
As per statisticians OptaAce, Jodar has become only the fifth Spanish teenager in the Open Era to win a Men’s Singles match at Wimbledon.
Carlos Alcaraz, who is absent from this year’s event, won his first Wimbledon match in 2021.
The youngster, then 18 years old, defeated lucky loser Yasutaka Uchiyama 6-3, 6-7, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

Sergi Bruguera, Tommy Robredo, and Rafael Nadal also won men’s singles matches at Wimbledon while teenagers.
Nadal won his first Wimbledon matches in 2003, when he was only 17 years old.
The Spaniard defeated Mario Ancic and Lee Childs, before losing to 12th seed Paradorn Srichaphan.
