Roland Garros announces significant prize money increase that could benefit Carlos Alcaraz and Coco Gauff

Carlos Alcaraz and Coco Gauff will head into the 2026 French Open looking to defend the titles they won in 2025.

Gauff secured her second Grand Slam title at the event, coming back from a set down to defeat Aryna Sabalenka in the final.

Alcaraz, meanwhile, contested one of the best matches in tennis history.

The Spaniard saved three consecutive championship points before defeating Jannik Sinner in five sets, 4–6, 6–7, 6–4, 7–6, 7–6.

Both Alcaraz and Gauff earned €2,550,000 in prize money following their respective triumphs in Paris.

This year, the pair could be set for another big payday, should they defend their titles.

Roland Garros announces prize money increase

On Thursday, the official Roland Garros X account announced a substantial increase in prize money for the 2026 event.

The new total will be €61,723,000 – up 9.53 per cent compared to the 2025 tournament.

Consequently, the champions of this year’s men’s and women’s singles event will likely receive an increased amount of prize money compared to 2025.

Last year, the tournament offered a total prize pot of €56,352,000 – up 5.21 per cent from the 2024 event.

When analysing the increase from 2025 to 2026, the total prize money for the qualifying event has been increased by 12.9 per cent, and prize money for the main draw has increased by 10.1 per cent from 2025.

Prize money for the doubles events has also increased by 3.90 per cent compared to last year. The wheelchair and quad categories have also seen a 14.55 per cent prize pot increase [€1,018,500].

Where Carlos Alcaraz and Coco Gauff rank in prize money won

Coco Gauff has earned $31,687,551 in prize money during her career so far, leaving her 11th on the all-time WTA list behind the likes of Serena Williams, Iga Swiatek and Maria Sharapova.

Carlos Alcaraz, meanwhile, recently overtook Andy Murray to become the fourth-highest prize money earner in ATP history.

Alcaraz has earned $64,948,871 during his career so far [as of the Monte Carlo Masters conclusion], despite being only 22 years old.

The Spaniard has earned $4,316,627 on the Tour this year, behind only Jannik Sinner, who has earned $4,355,701.
