Rod Laver sends message to Jannik Sinner after he successfully defends his Wimbledon title

Rod Laver has been quick to congratulate Jannik Sinner after he successfully defended his title at Wimbledon.

Sinner met Alexander Zverev in this year’s final on Centre Court, where he claimed a 6-7(7-9), 7-6(7-2), 6-3, 6-4 win.

The ATP rivals played out a high-quality encounter at the All England Club, where Sinner is now a two-time champion.

And his latest victory has already caught the eye of tennis legend Laver, who won Wimbledon four times during his glittering career.

Rod Laver congratulates Jannik Sinner on Wimbledon title

Sharing his reaction to the final in London, Laver posted on X: “What an exceptional men’s final at Wimbledon!

“Alexander Zverev put up a sterling fight with bold ball-striking, but Sinner rose to every challenge.

“Congratulations to Jannik on another Wimbledon title.”

It’s the perfect analysis from Laver, who like everyone else watching was left in awe of the enthralling battle.

Zverev certainly challenged the world number one, but Sinner showed superb resilience to come from behind and grind out the win.

Patrick Mouratoglou praises Jannik Sinner’s mindset in Wimbledon final win

Also impressed by the Italian was Patrick Mouratoglou, who has coached several high-profile players over the years, namely Serena Williams.

Mouratoglou wrote on X: “Impressed by Sinner’s performance.

“In a GS final not having his A game but still winning as he is finding solutions.

“Champion’s mindset!”

Sinner is now a five-time Grand Slam champion, with two Wimbledon titles, two Australian Open titles and one US Open title.

Before battling past Zverev at SW19, the Italian knocked out Miomir Kecmanovic, Nuno Borges, Jenson Brooksby, Shintaro Mochizuki, Jan-Lennard Struff and Novak Djokovic.
