The second seed, who beat Thailand’s Noppawan Lertcheewakarn in last year’s final, used her powerful serve to claim a 6-3 6-2 result on Court Two.

Robson’s next opponent will be Quirine Lemoine from Holland.

Robson had to fight off two break points in the opening game, but gained the edge in game eight of the first set when a wide forehand from Peers gave the Briton a 5-3 lead.

The 15-year-old then produced her sixth ace of the contest to claim a one-set lead after 30 minutes on court.

Another break followed for Robson at the start of the second set as Peers struggled to cope with her opponent’s big hitting.

The 18-year-old Australian tried to get back into the match, but Robson smashed down more aces and then broke again in game eight, before serving out for the victory in just one hour.
