The 19-year-old Brit, who comfortably defeated Serbian youngster Jovana Jaksic in her opening match, booked her place in the final eight for the second year in succession with a 6-4 7-6(4) victory over the world No.157.

It was in Guangzhou last year that Robson became the first British woman in 22 years to reach a WTA final before losing out to Hsieh Su-Wei in a tightly contested match and the world No. 35 will be confident of a repeat run at this year’s event.

Seeded No.3, Robson is the highest ranked player left in her half of the draw after Romanian Sorana Cirstea went crashing out in the first round 6-2 6-1 to Bojana Jovanovski, who was subsequently defeated by Vania King in the second round.

"I've played quite a few tournaments in China already and this one I really like,” said Robson. "It's super, super hot, so it's always tough matches here."

Next up for Robson is former Wimbledon semi-finalist Jie Zheng. The world No. 58, who has four tour titles to her name, saw off Timea Babos in the previous round.
