In their fourth meeting in the last 28 days, Argentinian Acasuso broke Robredo at the end of both sets of their last eight clash to deny the Spaniard in his quest for his third title in as many weeks.

Robredo entered the US Dollar 1.2 million red clay event fresh from victories in Costa Do Sauipe and Buenos Aires. He overcame Acasuso in the semi-finals of both tournaments.

Seeking his first title in three years, Acasuso did emerge victorious at Vina del Mar. Robredo currently leads the ATP with a 14-2 season record on clay – the only blemishes coming at the hands of Acasuso.

Awaiting Acasuso is a showdown with second-seeded Frenchman Gael Monfils.

Monfils was a heavy favourite to reach his third semi-final of the season as the world number 10 defeated Leonardo Mayer 6-3 6-7 (4/7) 4-1 before the Argentinian retired.

Defending champion and fourth seed Nicolas Almagro defeated countryman Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-2 7-6 (7/2).

The 21st-ranked Spaniard is the only seeded player remaining in his half of the draw and would not have to face a top-60 player until the championship.

Almagro will face Martin Vassallo Arguello of Argentina, who beat Austrian qualifier Daniel Koellerer 6-3 7-6 (8/6).
