Tennis legends rarely stay away from the sport after announcing their retirements.

Just this year, Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga have announced tennis returns years after retirement.

Serena Williams continues to tease a return to the sport, while her sister Venus has played several tournaments while in her forties.

Now, Richard Gasquet, Tommy Robredo, Sergi Bruguera, and Sebastian Grojean have been confirmed to play a doubles match.

Richard Gasquet and Tommy Robredo announce tennis return

Despite only being an ATP 500 event, the Barcelona Open often remains just as prestigious as the Masters tournaments it sits alongside.

The Spanish tournament has announced an opening day exhibition match, dubbed the Nations Cup, which will feature the four legends.

What is your bold prediction for the 2026 tennis season?

Gasquet and Grosjean will represent France against a Spanish team made up of Bruguera and Robredo in an all-star doubles match.

The four men won 46 career titles between them, with Bruguera also managing to claim two Grand Slam trophies at Roland Garros.

The event is set to take place on the 9th April, two days before the main draw for the Barcelona Open gets underway.

Who is playing the Barcelona Open this year?

As usual, the Barcelona Open features a stacked ATP line-up headlined by current world number one Carlos Alcaraz.

Alcaraz always plays the tournament as many of his family are based in the area, and he will be joined by several top 10 players.

Lorenzo Musetti, Alex de Minaur, and Felix Auger-Aliassime will represent the ATP Tour top 10 at the Spanish tournament.

They will be joined by Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev, Cameron Norrie, and Stan Wawrinka, the latter of which has received a wild card.

Last year’s Barcelona Open was won by Holger Rune, who shocked Alcaraz in the final at his home tournament.
