Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic to play at same Wimbledon warm up
Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are set to play in the same London grass court exhibition event next week, as they prepare to go head-to-head at Wimbledon.
The two Grand Slam greats are set to part take in the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic and will play in the tournament staged at The Hurlingham Club from the 21st to the 26th June. (Tickets are still available here)
The pair could potentially meet for the first time since their epic quarter-final showdown at the Paris Slam.
The announcement means it will be the the Serbian star’s first time playing at The Hurlingham Club in the exhibition event.
Both players will be making their first appearances on grass this season, with both Djokovic and Nadal opting against playing in the pre-Wimbledon grass court events.
On Friday, Nadal confirmed that he is set to play in Wimbledon, meaning this will be the Spaniard’s only match court practice on grass prior to the Summer Slam.
The 36-year-old Spaniard will end his 3 year hiatus from the All England Club and will be hoping to claim a first SW19 title in 12 years.
Nadal will also want to keep his hopes alive of achieving a coveted Calendar Slam after his historic triumphs at the Australian Open and Roland Garros.
Whereas Novak Djokovic will be looking to secure a seventh Wimbledon title as well as a 21st Grand Slam win – cutting the deficit to just one behind Nadal.
The new additions will be joining the tournament’s strong line-up, which includes teen sensation Carlos Alcaraz, French Open finalist Casper Ruud and world number nine Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Also participating in the exhibition event are legends of the game including Lleyton Hewitt, Xavier Malisse, Mansour Bahrami, Greg Rusedski, Radek Stepanek, Tommy Haas, Marcos Baghdatis, Laura Robson and Daniela Hantuchová.
