The 34th-ranked Querrey, who defeated Canas last year in the Las Vegas semi-finals en route to his first ATP World Tour title, needed just one break of serve in the second set to close the match.

Also, Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez recorded a 6-3 6-3 triumph over fifth-seeded Steve Darcis of Belgium.

The loss is Darcis’ fifth in as many tournaments this season – including last week where he was the defending champion in Memphis.

In other matches, sixth-seeded Frenchman Florent Serra defeated Jarkko Nieminen of Finland 6-3 7-6 (7/5), Austrian Stefan Koubek bested American Bobby Reynolds 6-4 6-3, and Christophe Rochus of Belgium toppled Croat Roko Karanusic 6-3 6-4

In the late match American Robert Kendrick beat Chilean Paul Capdeville 4-6 6-2 6-1.
