Karen Khachanov upset French Open 2019

“Perhaps I didn’t live up to all expectations” Karen Khachanov delivers emotional review of ‘challenging year’

This time last year Karen Khachanov had just beaten Novak Djokovic in the final of the ATP 1000 Paris Masters and was seemingly on top of the tennis world, and then it all changed

Karen Khachanov has finished the 2019 season ranked No.17 in thew world compared to 12 months ago when he was ranked No. 11 in the world and seemingly ready for a breakout year in 2019. That break out year didn’t materialise with Khachanov himself admitting that he has struggled with his game.

Khachanov sent a message of thank to all his supporters on Twitter saying, “2019 season is over! It was a challenging year for me.I am really thankful to those people who kept supporting me when I was struggling with my game.Perhaps this year I didn’t live up to all expectations but I believe with all my hard work next year will bring even more success!”

One factor that may have been behind this apparent failure to continue improving is perhaps down to a sudden change in racket brand that Khachanov made in January 2019. After a number of disappointing losses in the early part of the 2019 season Khachanov decided to return to his previous racket brand that had seen him win the Paris Masters. His season then gradually improved as he rose from No.13 to No8 in the rankings but his inability to retain his Paris crown has meant another big drop in the rankings down to his current position of 12.
