Patrick Mouratoglou shares what Jannik Sinner has been doing in practice this year that he really likes

Outside of Carlos Alcaraz, there have not been many players who have challenged Jannik Sinner in 2025.

Sinner and Alcaraz’s rivalry has dominated the ATP Tour this year, with the two men sharing the four Grand Slams this season.

Sinner won six tournaments this term and only lost to three different players in 2025, with only Alcaraz, Alexander Bublik, and Tallon Griekspoor managing to oust the Italian.

The star’s dominance shows no signs of ending in 2025, with his practicing being analysed by Patrick Mouratoglou as the season draws to a close.

Patrick Mouratoglou likes Jannik Sinner’s ‘slow’ practices

Sinner has been spotted several times taking part in slower practices, where he uses barely any power on his strikes.

The move has baffled fans, but iconic tennis coach Mouratoglou has applauded the Italian for the move.

On Instagram, he said: “I think it’s great. First of all if you look at it, of course he’s playing very slowly because the point is not to hit hard at the start, the point is to find looseness.

“He wants to feel the ball and he’s focusing a lot on his movement. As you can see he does open stance backhand, open stance forehand, with sliding. He’s on clay, it’s probably his first days on clay.

“He wants to get used to sliding again. So the fact he doesn’t pay too much attention to his shots makes him focus a lot more on his movement on his footwork.

“But at the same time, he’s still hitting the shot which is great because if you focus on your footwork, but not play the shot, you’re not going to do it the same way.

“I would totally do the same with a player. It’s a great exercise to find the looseness at the start of practice and work on your footwork, especially when you change surface.”

Sinner will continue to be coached by Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi in 2026 as the partnership rumbles into its third season.

Jannik Sinner’s record against Carlos Alcaraz in 2025

Sinner was beaten four times by Alcaraz in 2025, which is double the amount any other player managed against him.

The Spaniard has shown that he knows how to beat Sinner, which is indicated by his record against him in 2025.

Sinner dropped an average of 3.3 games on serve against Sinner in every game, whereas every other opponent ranked at a measly 0.7.

Sinner was able to save over 75% of break points against the rest of the ATP Tour, but it dropped dramatically to 53.5% against Alcaraz.

Who do you think will win more Grand Slam titles in 2026?

If Sinner can find a way to nullify Alcaraz even further in 2026, then he truly will be unstoppable on the ATP Tour.
