Outlining the perfect game plan for Novak Djokovic to beat Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon semi-final

Novak Djokovic will face Jannik Sinner for the 12th time in his career on Friday, and arguably, no previous match has ever been as important as this one.

After all, with no Carlos Alcaraz in the draw, these two great champions are competing for the opportunity to face one of two potential first-time Wimbledon finalists.

Whoever emerges victorious from their showdown is expected to be the heavy favourite to take the title, with many arguing that this actually represents the real final.

Given how few opportunities Novak Djokovic has had in recent years to claim that 25th Grand Slam title, this is an opportunity he simply cannot let slip.

With that in mind, here’s the game plan he simply must follow if he is to stand any chance of overcoming Jannik Sinner.

The only way Novak Djokovic can beat Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon

Djokovic will know that he heads into this match against Sinner as the underdog.

After all, not only is he far older than his great rival, but he is coming off the back of a gruelling five-set thriller against Felix Auger Aliassime, which actually broke the record as the longest quarter-final in Wimbledon history.

Jannik Sinner vs Novak Djokovic – Who reaches the Wimbledon final?

The best in the world takes on the G.O.A.T.

He was afforded an extra day of rest, but fitness will be of paramount importance on Friday.

With that in mind, the 39-year-old has to go for it. Keeping points short and being aggressive is of paramount importance, and maintaining a near-perfect serve will provide the foundation for any success he enjoys.

Sinner’s serve is similarly fearsome, but Djokovic prides himself on his returns. If he can get the ball in play and get into a rally, he must hit consistently deep to not allow his opponent to get into a rhythm. Throwing in slices will also be particularly important.

The main shot that garnered so much success in their last meeting in Melbourne was when the Serbian switched things up and went big down the line.

It unsettled Sinner massively, and allowed him to be the one dictating points.

And, if all of this should fail, there is one last resort option that Djokovic could revert to. They will likely be playing in 32-degree heat tomorrow. If he can drag the match out and turn it into a gruelling slog, it might be interesting to see whose body will fail first.

Sinner crumbled at Roland Garros due to these harsh conditions, and has a history of struggling in longer matches. The longer it goes on, the greater chance Djokovic has, statistically.

When delving through their last few matches, it does not make for great reading if you’re hoping that Djokovic can emerge victorious.

However, he will cling to the fact that he won their most recent meeting, in another Grand Slam semi-final no less.
