Ons Jabeur suffers US Open disappointment

Ons Jabeur vows to get major title ‘real soon’ after US Open heartbreak

Ons Jabeur promised she would not abandon her quest for major after she lost in the US Open final to Iga Swiatek.

It was the second successive Grand Slam in which the Tunisian has fallen at the final hurdle, with her also losing the Wimbledon final to Elena Rybakina this summer.

She was well short of her best tennis against Swiatek, although she does leave the tournament as the world number two.

However, she does not intend on stopping there, and she has vowed to carry on until she gets that elusive major.

“I want to thank the crowd for cheering me up and I really tried but Iga didn’t make it easy for me,” Ons Jabeur said after Swiatek’s 6-2, 7-6 win. “She deserved to win today. I don’t like her very much right now but it’s OK.

“Amazing two weeks backing up my final at Wimbledon. I’m going to be working hard and we’ll get that title real soon.

“I tried to push myself to do more, getting the major is one of the goals and hopefully I can inspire more and more generations. I got inspired by so many champions – Martina [Navratilova] inspired us, Arantxa [Sanchez Vicario]and thank you also to my team, my friends.

“We want more and more kids coming and this is just the beginning of so many things.”
