The British number three broke three times as she won the first set against Stephanie Dubois of Canada, who, at 114 in the world, was ranked 11 places above her.

However, from there on Dubois barely gave the Beverley-born right-hander a chance, as she ran out a 4-6 6-2 6-1 winner in two hours and eight minutes.
