Novak Djokovic is set to get his Indian Wells campaign underway in the second round against Kamil Majchrzak.

Djokovic, who will also play doubles at Indian Wells, is looking to win a record-setting sixth title at the Californian event.

The Serbian star has been on-site for a week, as he gears up to win his first ATP title since the Hellenic Championships last November.

The star’s latest practice session saw him play out an entire set, which he surprisingly lost.

Novak Djokovic loses to Daniil Medvedev

Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev played out a practice set at Indian Wells, just hours before the Serbian’s first match at the tournament.

The two men played out a competitive and tightly-fought set, which surprisingly went the way of Medvedev.

Medvedev took the set 6-4 at Indian Wells, which will surely provide a boost for the Russian before his match with Alejandro Tabilo.

Can Carlos Alcaraz win MORE Grand Slams than Novak Djokovic? 🤔

It’s worth noting that Djokovic also lost a practice set to Medvedev at the Australian Open, which could prove to be a good omen for the multi-time Grand Slam champion.

Djokovic raced to the final of the Australian Open, which included a brilliant five set victory against world number two Jannik Sinner.

Medvedev and Djokovic have always been firm friends on the ATP Tour and they’ve produced a competitive rivalry.

They have played 15 matches, 10 of which have been won by Djokovic since 2017.

Novak Djokovic’s recent Indian Wells record is a worry

Djokovic might have won 5 Indian Wells titles, but his recent form at the Californian event is somewhat strange.

The Serbian has only played the event five times in the last nine years, and in that period he’s never reached past the fourth round.

Novak Djokovic would be the undisputed GOAT if he won Grand Slam number 25 – could anyone argue otherwise?

“I think if he’s healthy, I think he still has a shot. I think he’s still in that conversation with those guys, but it’s clear, I guess, especially against Sinner, that it’s been pretty difficult for him.”

– Jim Courier

“He is the best of all time without any doubt. But even the way he expresses it makes me feel that he doesn’t believe he can.”

– Patrick Mouratoglou

“As time goes on, even he, you would think it would get tougher for, but this is going to get a whole lot tougher.”

– John McEnroe

Djokovic has been knocked out in the second and third round in the last two years, with his last defeat coming against Botic van de Zandschulp in 2015.

His best performance in the past nine years was in 2017, when he was defeated in the fourth round by Nick Kyrgios.

Nevertheless, Djokovic’s overall record at Indian Wells is stunning.

The star has won 51 of his 62 matches at the Californian event, which equates to a ridiculous 82% win rate.
