Novak Djokovic has responded to Stefanos Tsitsipas after beating him at Wimbledon.

Djokovic beat Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to comfortably reach the third round of The Championships.

This was an impressive performance by Djokovic, who some believe is the favourite to win Wimbledon this year.

Djokovic and Tsitsipas have previously played in two Grand Slam finals against each other, but they are now at very different positions in their careers, something that was commented on after the match.

Novak Djokovic claims Stefanos Tsitsipas is ‘not in the best shape’

Djokovic, who is now 39 years old, remains a top 10 player as the current world number eight, but that is certainly not the case for Tsitsipas.

Tsitsipas has been ranked as highly as world number three, but after struggling to find both form and fitness over the past 12 months, the Greek is now ranked all the way down as the world number 87.

This was the first time that Djokovic had played Tsitsipas since the Paris Olympics in 2024, and after the match the latter admitted that the gap in quality had grown between them, despite being the much younger player.

These comments were brought to Djokovic in his post-match press conference, with the 24-time Grand Slam champion then giving his verdict on Tsitsipas’ career right now.

How far does Novak Djokovic make it at Wimbledon this year?

He's safely through to the third round!

“I mean, today… I don’t know what gap he was comparing to from before,” said Djokovic. I mean, we haven’t played each other ever, I think, on grass. It was a first time.

“Stefanos is not in the best shape like he was when he was top 5 in the world and playing Grand Slam finals. That’s obvious.

“You could feel that in important moments where he would miss some shots that normally maybe he wouldn’t. But that’s tennis. When you play at the highest level, if you don’t have confidence, you start to overthink on the shots, then you’re not really feeling comfortable playing the right shots at the right time.

“He’s still, I think, finding his confidence and trying to get to that desired level, to the level that he played on before for many years.

“Yeah, today I think I raised my level, and he probably didn’t play as well as he can. So, I mean, that was enough for a straight-set win.”

What is Novak Djokovic’s Head-to-Head vs Stefanos Tsitsipas?

Although Tsitsipas has spoken about the gap between himself and Djokovic getting bigger, he has always struggled in his head-to-head against the Serbian.

Tsitsipas actually won two of his first three matches against Djokovic, but he now trails their head-to-head 13-2.

However, this was the first time that Djokovic and Tsitsipas had played before the semi-finals of a Grand Slam and the last-16 stage of any tournament,

Djokovic will now go from playing someone he has faced many times to an opponent he has never played before in singles in 25th seed Arthur Rinderknech, who is the highest-ranked ATP player without a title.

This third round match between Djokovic and Rinderknech will take place on Friday, July 3.
