Novak Djokovic has secured his spot in yet another Australian Open final, beating Jannik Sinner across a five-set epic that spanned over four hours.

It was an affair laden with quality and drama, as the 38-year-old summoned every last drop of energy to outlast an opponent who is 15 years his junior.

And, having lost his last five matches against the Italian, the way in which he battled to earn this victory was astounding.

Should Djokovic retire whatever happens in the Australian Open final and go out in a blaze of glory?

Novak Djokovic will now face Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday for a chance at winning his coveted 25th Grand Slam title.

He has since taken to social media to react to the latest iconic victory in his ageless, legendary career.

The Serbian has tried and failed to secure a 25th major title for years now, consistently thwarted by Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

Having finally beaten one of them in a Grand Slam, he must now topple the other if he is to cement his spot as the greatest tennis player of all time.

Speaking on court immediately after his win earlier tonight, he held back tears as he soaked in the raucous atmosphere on Rod Laver Arena.

It seems like he has still not found the words to describe such a night, as he simply wrote on X: “Lost for words”. So is the entire tennis world.

Djokovic revealed what Alcaraz told him right before he beat Sinner, and ironically, he will now face him in two days’ time.

Novak Djokovic to reignite rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz

Djokovic and Alcaraz have enjoyed some historic battles over the past few years, although they have become less and less competitive of late.

After all, whilst the legendary veteran did claim the win in the Olympics, thus completing his trophy cabinet, he has since been handily dismantled by the Spaniard in the recent US Open, showcasing the gulf that has opened up between them.

Do you think Alexander Zverev has what it takes to win a Grand Slam?

Three years ago now, we saw the two trade iconic results, with Djokovic beating him in the Cincinnati Open final and the Roland Garros semi-final, whilst Alcaraz won both their meetings in the Wimbledon final in 2023 and 2024.

Their head-to-head currently stands at five wins to four in favour of the elder.

With Alcaraz chasing a career Grand Slam title, and Djokovic seeking to create his own history by winning number 25, Sunday’s Australian Open final could not be more perfectly poised.
