Novak Djokovic is quite possibly the greatest male player in tennis history.

The Serbian superstar holds a number of tennis records, including having won the most Grand Slam titles of any male player in tennis history.

At 38 years old, Djokovic is continuing to compete at the highest level: he is ranked third on the ATP Tour and reached the Australian Open final earlier this year.

When do you think Novak Djokovic will return?

He still hasn't played a match on clay this year…

Djokovic has achieved so much in his career that it is difficult to identify his greatest moment.

However, Djokovic has done exactly that while speaking to reporters in Madrid.

Novak Djokovic says winning Olympic gold is the highlight of his tennis career

Earlier this week, Novak Djokovic hosted the 2026 Laureus Sports Awards alongside freestyle skier Eileen Gu.

Prior to the ceremony, Djokovic spoke to reporters at the Cibeles Palace in Madrid, where he identified the 2024 Olympic Men’s Singles final as the crowning moment of his tennis career so far.

Djokovic, who has historically struggled at the Olympics, famously defeated Carlos Alcaraz 7-6, 7-6 in the 2024 Olympics Men’s Singles Gold Medal match.

“You just reminded me of the photo that you showed to me after the finals and I won the gold medal, where I was very emotional and sensitive, and you showed me a photo of me making my first steps on the tennis court,” Djokovic said to a reporter in Spain.

“So that’s what the win at the Olympic Games meant to me.

“I would definitely put it up there, probably the highlight of my career, considering that I was 37 years old and winning at the 37, probably the last best chance to win the Olympic gold.

Against Carlos on Centre Court of Roland Garros, it was incredible experience and something I’ll never forget, and probably the nicest memory.

“And of course, I went back and watched it millions of times, with myself, my kids, and everybody.”

Novak Djokovic discusses his motivation to play the 2028 Olympics

On more than one occasion, Novak Djokovic has stated his desire to compete at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

If the Serbian great does so, it would be an incredible feat: Djokovic would be 40 years old when the event begins.

While speaking to reporters at the Laureus Sports Awards, Djokovic discussed the reasons behind his desire to compete at the event.

He said: “Six Olympic Games is better than five Olympic Games [laughing].

Novak Djokovic would be the undisputed GOAT if he won Grand Slam number 25 – could anyone argue otherwise?

“I think if he’s healthy, I think he still has a shot. I think he’s still in that conversation with those guys, but it’s clear, I guess, especially against Sinner, that it’s been pretty difficult for him.”

– Jim Courier

“He is the best of all time without any doubt. But even the way he expresses it makes me feel that he doesn’t believe he can.”

– Patrick Mouratoglou

“As time goes on, even he, you would think it would get tougher for, but this is going to get a whole lot tougher.”

– John McEnroe

“Of course, I’ve said it many times – the Olympic Games, representing your country, wearing the colours of your flag and of your nation on your shirt, on your back.

“Probably something that no other event can really give you that kind of sensation and opportunity and to be sharing that Olympic experience with 10,000 other athletes— best athletes from the world.

“So I hope to get to experience it another time.

“I really am working on it. Two years seems a very long way for me now at this stage, but I’m working on it.”
