Novak Djokovic is one of the greatest champions in not just the history of Wimbledon, but the history of the entire sport.

And yet, despite his declining dominance over the ATP Tour, he still remains as keen as ever to offer his wisdom to the next generation, even if it is to his detriment.

Back in 2022, Djokovic gave Darren Cahill some advice for coaching Sinner, and since then, the Italian has only gone from strength to strength.

You’d have thought he might have learned a thing or two, and yet here he is again, offering the world number one more of his knowledge.

Novak Djokovic tells Jannik Sinner what he must do as defending Wimbledon champion

Speaking directly to Jannik Sinner, with both wearing microphones as they practised on Centre Court, Laura Robson asked Novak Djokovic to offer some words of wisdom to the defending champion.

The Serbian admitted, on Stan Sports‘ social media: “I don’t think he needs my tips to be honest. He’s doing quite well. I’m just trying to be as good a sparring partner for him today.”

Djokovic would then add: “No, but jokes aside, obviously, he’s had an incredible couple years of his career and walking out on the Centre Court on the fresh grass, virgin grass, as a defending champion. I don’t think there’s any feeling that can match that in tennis, especially, maybe even top five, probably in all sports.

“So, I do not have any advice for him, but I do want to tell him that he should enjoy the moment, because, you know, there are not too many moments like that.”

Novak Djokovic knows all about being the defending Wimbledon champion

There is arguably nobody more qualified within the sport than Djokovic to give advice on how to act as the defending Wimbledon champion.

After all, he has won this tournament on seven occasions and defended his crown three of those times.

His first title at the All England Club came in 2011, beating Rafael Nadal in the final.

He then had to wait another three years to win it again, as he beat Roger Federer in the final in both 2014 and 2015 to successfully defend the title.

2018 saw him beat Kevin Anderson in the final before then overcoming the Swiss superstar once again in 2019, in what is widely seen as one of the greatest Grand Slam finals ever.

His last two Wimbledon triumphs came in 2021 and 2022, beating Matteo Berrettini and Nick Kyrgios in those respective finals.
