Novak Djokovic has reached a career milestone that has seen him match an impressive Roger Federer record.

Djokovic has been predicted to retire in 2026, but he still continues to compete at the biggest tournaments on the ATP Tour.

The Serbian returned to action at the Shanghai Masters, where he lost to eventual winner Valentin Vacherot.

Without even playing, Djokovic has managed to level another Federer record as the 2025 season draws to a close.

Novak Djokovic qualifies for the ATP Finals

The Serbian has qualified for the ATP Finals yet again, and he has done so without even picking up a tennis racket.

Djokovic’s qualification was confirmed after World No. 8 Lorenzo Musetti lost to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard at the European Open.

The qualification means Djokovic has been eligible for the event in 18 different years, which matches Federer’s record at the event.

Should Djokovic play the event, he will also equal Federer’s record for the highest number of appearances at the ATP Finals.

The Serbian has won the event seven times, with the most recent victory coming in 2023 when he defeated Jannik Sinner in the final.

Will Novak Djokovic play the ATP Finals?

Djokovic has made no secret about his desire to win another Grand Slam before he retires, and he’s put that objective above anything else on the ATP Tour.

The Serbian may have qualified for the ATP Finals, but that is not a guarantee that he will play the illustrious event.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion qualified for the event in 2024, but he opted not to play the Turin event and was replaced by Andrey Rublev.

Djokovic looked out of sorts at the Shanghai Masters and continued to look weary at the Six Kings Slam, so there’s every chance he skips the ATP Finals.
