Novak Djokovic has a very difficult route to the final of Indian Wells, the first ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season.
Djokovic is playing for the first time since the Australian Open, where he was beaten in the final by Carlos Alcaraz.
He’s now not only looking to return to winning ways, but is also chasing a record sixth title at Indian Wells, and a first since 2016
But Djokovic really hasn’t received much fortune with his potential draw, which features ATP heavyweights Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Can Carlos Alcaraz win MORE Grand Slams than Novak Djokovic? 🤔
Novak Djokovic could face Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at Indian Wells
As the third seed, the Serbian has received a bye in round one of Indian Wells, but could then face tricky customer and huge server Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
Hubert Hurkacz and Corentin Moutet represent possible third round tests, while defending champion Jack Draper is a potential fourth round opponent.
Djokovic could then meet Taylor Fritz or Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals, before an Alcaraz reunion in the semifinals.
And should the five-time champion make it that far, a possible final against second seed Sinner awaits, but he could also meet either Ben Shelton or Alexander Zverev.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner face possible Indian Wells final
Alcaraz and Sinner are in opposite halves of the Indian Wells draw, with the top two seeds potentially meeting in the final.
World number one Alcaraz has been the dominant figure in men’s tennis this season, while Sinner has endured a slow start to 2026.
The two superstars have thus far been kept apart, but a 17th career meeting is on the cards at Indian Wells.
What do you think is Carlos Alcaraz’s best surface and why?
Alcaraz has earned a bye into the second round of the event, where he could then face either Terence Atmane or Grigor Dimitrov.
After that, Arthur Rinderknech and Botic van de Zandschulp represent potential opponents, while he could meet Casper Ruud in the round of 16.
Alex de Minaur and Djokovic represent possible ties in the quarterfinal and semifinal respectively, before a potential final with Sinner.

As for the Italian, he also starts off with a round one bye, before possible clashes with James Duckworth and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
He could face Joao Fonseca or Tommy Paul in the round of 16, with Shelton and Zverev representing possible quarterfinal and semifinal opponents respectively.
- R1: Bye
- R2: Duckworth
- R3: Etcheverry (29)
- R4: Khachanov (16)
- QF: Shelton (8)
- SF: Zverev (4)
- F: Alcaraz (1)
It’s certainly not an easy draw for Sinner, who enters Indian Wells with a 7-2 record for 2026, in stark contrast to the 12-0 record of Alcaraz.
The Spaniard also holds the bragging rights in their thrilling head-to-head, winning 10 of their 16 matches so far ahead of another possible match in California.
