Novak Djokovic ‘collecting signatures and threatening a boycott’ in support of axed players

Novak Djokovic is attempting to have Guido Pella and Hugo Dellien reinstated to the Western & Southern Masters, according to a report in Spain.

The duo were withdrawn from the tournament by officials after their physio tested positive for coronavirus inside the ‘bubble’ inn New York.

They have now been told to self-isolate despite them returning negative test results themselves, putting their prospects of being allowed to play the US Open at risk.

However, Marca reports the players are not happy with the situation, with Novak Djokovic, in his role as chairman of the Players Council, ‘collecting signatures’ to present a petition to the USTA.

It appears to be a futile cause given that two alternate players have already been given their places.

Marca claim players are willing to go as far as holding a full boycott of the tournament in support of Pella and Dellien.

Pella himself has explained that the reason for their withdrawal was because he shared a room with his physio, who has tested positive for coronavirus, in Miami before travelling to New York.
