Novak Djokovic continues to astound and amaze on the world stage, even against the sport’s very best players, some of whom are just shy of half his age.
Last night saw him once again overcome time, as he rallied from setback after setback to defeat Felix Auger Aliassime in a fifth-set match tiebreak.
It reinforced his superhuman stature, and has led many to wonder whether he is exhibiting the necessary quality to now reach the final and win the Wimbledon title.
If he is to accomplish this feat, Novak Djokovic now has the unenviable task of trying to topple the defending champion Jannik Sinner in Friday’s semi-final.
In recent years, this has been a match-up that has not ended well for the Serb. However, he can take confidence from their most recent meeting in Melbourne.

Jannik Sinner vs Novak Djokovic – Who reaches the Wimbledon final?
The best in the world takes on the G.O.A.T.
Djokovic admitted: “I mean, I had a very long semis against Sinner. This is quarters. Now I have to play Sinner in semis. There’s a difference in the surface. Obviously that was the first big tournament of the year for me, coming fresher from several months of break and preparation.
“It’s a bit different now. But nevertheless, another great, historic run for me at the Grand Slams. This is what counts the most, honestly. I still try to prove to myself and others that I’m able to compete with the best players in the world and beat them on the biggest stage. That’s what I’ve done in Australia. It’s what I’ve done here.
“Hopefully I can do it in a few more matches here in London.”
An exhausted Djokovic spoke on court straight after last night’s match, and briefly mentioned the daunting prospect of having to face Sinner next.

As briefly mentioned, recent history has not been kind to Djokovic when it comes to his match-up with Sinner.
But, crucially, he won their most recent exchange in the Australian Open semi-finals, and that will be enough to inspire the 39-year-old.

| 2026 | Australian Open | Semi-final | Novak Djokovic |
| 2025 | Wimbledon | Semi-final | Jannik Sinner |
