The Serbian world number two – the top-ranked woman remaining in the draw after Serena Williams’ first-round defeat – needed just 78 minutes to see off the Tunisian 6-3 6-0 and will now face Roberta Vinci in the last eight.

Williams’ conqueror, Klara Zakopalova, continued her run in the competition but she was made to fight by Renata Voracova.

There was little to separate the Czechs in the first two sets but eventually the world number 95 prevailed 7-6 5-7 6-0.

Fifth seed Carla Suarez Navarro overcame a disastrous opening to her match against Ekaterina Ivanova to set up a quarter-final clash with Zakopalova.

The home favourite was blown away in the first set but powered back strongly in a 0-6 6-3 6-0 victory.

Italy’s sixth seed Sara Errani is also safely through after a 6-0 7-6 win over Slovenia’s Polona Hercog.

World number 21 Kaia Kanepi claimed the expected victory over Holland’s Arantxa Rus, beating her 142nd-ranked opponent 7-5 6-2.
