Naomi Osaka will not be adding to her Grand Slam tally at Wimbledon this year.

Osaka beat Aryna Sabalenka to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals, which is her best ever result at the grass court major.

However, the former world number one was unable to continue her run, with Osaka being beaten by Karolina Muchova 7-6(4), 6-4.

After Osaka’s best ever run at Wimbledon came to an end, she was asked if she still feels like she can win another Grand Slam title.

Naomi Osaka states that she still feels like she has an opportunity to win a major

Osaka spoke in her post-match press conference after the match, where she confirmed that she still feels like she has an opportunity to win a Grand Slam title.

“I mean, that’s a tough question,” responded Osaka. “Like I know my results don’t show it, but whenever I play a slam, my intention is to win.

And obviously last year I got to the semis [at the US Open]. I wanted so desperately to be in the final to have that opportunity, but Amanda [Anisimova] played insane. I honestly wasn’t even mad that she won.

“This one is a little more upsetting to me because I feel like there was so much more I could have done. I think maybe I should find the positive in that because I’ve gotten to the quarters and I feel like I can still improve so much as a player. Yeah, I feel like in my head I think there’s still an opportunity to win a slam.”

Osaka won her fourth and most recent Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in 2021, but she has not returned to a major final since then.

The 28-year-old has played 16 Grand Slam tournaments since then, with Osaka missing all four majors in 2023, when she gave birth to her daughter, Shai.

Osaka achieved her best Grand Slam result during this time at the US Open last year, where she reached the semi-finals before losing to Amanda Anisimova.

What is next for Naomi Osaka after her Wimbledon exit?

Osaka will now turn her attention to the US Open hard court swing, which has previously provided her with so much of her career success.

The Japanese star is next scheduled to compete at the Washington Open, where Osaka is set to be the third seed behind Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostyuk.

Osaka is also expected to compete at two tournaments where she has previously reached the final, in the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open, having finished as runner-up in 2025 and 2020, respectively.

This will all lead up to the US Open, where Osaka has won two of her four Grand Slam titles.

Osaka will be hoping to recreate these memories at the US Open this year, which is statistically her best major tournament alongside the Australian Open.
