”Nadal is an inspiration for me and for all children” says top 100 Spaniard
Jaume Munar, who trains at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, says Rafael Nadal ”is an inspiration” stating that ”if there is someone who has had a direct impact on my career, it is him.”
35 year old Rafael Nadal has had a fantastic start to the season, in fact, it is his best start to a season ever. In January, he won the title in Melbourne as well as claiming a record 21st Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. A fourth title in Acapulco in February and a run to the final at Indian Wells Masters last month followed.
Jaume Munar, the World number 78, has witnessed the ‘King of Clay’s’ greatness on a daily basis as he trains alongside his fellow Spaniard at Nadal’s tennis academy in Mallorca.
Speaking to Marca after claiming the Andalucia Open title, Munar waxed lyrical about Nadal, praising the 13-time French Open champion’s impact off the court on his own career and that of other generations.
”Today I already have my training patterns because I have more experience than a few years ago. But it helped me a lot, and I will always remember, when I arrived at the Academy, seeing the way he trained and the desire and intensity with which he did it. He is an inspiration to me and to all children. If there is someone who has had a direct impact on my career, it is him.”
Munar explained how impressed he was by Nadal’s recent performances, motivation and daily drive, despite his age, ”Yes, it surprises me, but less than many people because I have been lucky enough to know Rafa from within, I know what his ambitions are and I know that he likes his day to day life and that he likes tennis.”
”He plays because he loves it and of course he also competes for the records, obviously. He enjoys what he does, that’s why he maintains the illusion of 18 years ago.”
