The Frenchman is currently ranked at No.119 in the world rankings after struggling with a knee injury last season.

The 26-year-old, who reached the last four in Paris in 2008, was ranked as high as world No.7 in 2011.

Fellow Frenchmen Nicolas Mahut, Florent Serra, Marc Giquel, Adrian Mannarino and Lucas Pouille have also been awarded wildcards alongside American Alex Kuznetsov and Australia’s John Millman.

In the women’s draw, Virginie Razzano, who claimed the scalp of current world No.1 Serena Williams in the first round last year, has also been handed a free pass into the main draw.

She will be joined by highly rated youngsters Ashleigh Barty and Caroline Garcia, while home players Claire Feuerstein, Stephanie Foretz-Gacon, Irena Pavlovic and Aravane Rezai and American Shelby Rogers have also received wildcards.

The clay-court Grand Slam takes place from May 26 to June 9.
