Mirra Andreeva and Victoria Mboko have emerged as two of the finest young talents on the WTA Tour.

The duo, aged 18 and 19, are already WTA 1000 title winners, with Andreeva in Indian Wells this week hoping to defend the title she won in 2025.

With their talent and age profile, Andreeva and Mboko look set to become the next great rivalry on the WTA Tour, following on from the likes of Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, and Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams.

The pair contested a blockbuster match in Qatar last month, with Mboko emerging victorious in a third-set tiebreak.

Andreeva has already said she ‘wouldn’t mind’ having a rivalry with Mboko, and the Russian continued to discuss their friendship while speaking to reporters in California.

“Yeah, of course it’s very nice to have someone to share all the different emotions and all different moments on tour,” Andreeva said of Mboko [pictured below].

“Obviously I have known her for a very long time since we played juniors together.

“You know, it’s very nice to be on tour together, to now, as you said, have like that little rivalry going on, and, you know, we are good friends off the court. I mean, on the court, as well.

“It’s just nice to have someone that, you know, can share the same emotions, same feelings as you. Yeah, it’s just good to have a good friend on tour.”

Andreeva and Mboko have played each other twice before on the WTA Tour.

Andreeva won the first match, defeating Mboko 6-3, 6-1 in the 2026 Brisbane International final.

Mboko avenged this loss a month later, beating Andreeva 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 in the Qatar Open quarter-finals.

The pair are both playing in Indian Wells over the next two weeks and both have received a bye to the second round.

Mboko will play Kimberley Birrell in the second round, while Andreeva will begin her title defence against Solana Sierra or Peyton Stearns, who recently won the ATX Open.

Victoria Mboko’s Indian Wells draw

Victoria Mboko has been in excellent form to start the year, reaching finals at the Brisbane International and Qatar Open.

She will hope her good form continues on Friday when she plays Kimberley Birrell in the Indian Wells second round.

From there, Mboko could face Zeynep Sonmez or Anna Kalinskaya in the third round, before meeting Emma Raducanu or Amanda Anisimova in the fourth round.

Mboko’s toughest test – should she advance that far – will likely be in the quarter-finals, where she would most probably play top seed Aryna Sabalenka.

Mboko faced Aryna Sabalenka in the Australian Open fourth round earlier this year and was beaten by the world number one 6-1, 7-6.
