Mirra Andreeva impressed all throughout her run to the Madrid Open final, but sadly came unstuck at the final hurdle.

And, in the end, her tournament ended in tears.

So often we have seen this Russian talent overcome by emotions, both during and after matches that have not gone her way.

However, whilst she struggled to keep it together afterwards, the way in which Mirra Andreeva composed herself throughout the final speaks volumes for her growing maturity.

In fact, it arguably proved that she will definitely win a Grand Slam title if she continues in this vein.

How Mirra Andreeva handled her emotions in the Madrid Open final

After all, so often we have seen Andreeva implode when overcome with emotion. She, much like Andrey Rublev, has been guilty of great outbursts, smashing rackets on the court and, at times, against herself, so frustrated at being unable to execute their game plan successfully.

However, against Marta Kostyuk in the Madrid Open final, that kind of immaturity was not present.

In fact, she sped through the match, serving at a breakneck pace clearly in an effort to manage her emotions and ensure she did not get bogged down by lost points.

Whilst it did not pay dividends, having lost to Kostyuk, it showcased the fact that Andreeva and her team are well aware of the importance that a calm mentality provides. And, not only that, but they are putting measures in place to find a solution.

To have recognised this at such a young age, and already put things in place to rectify the situation, there is no doubt that a Grand Slam title awaits her.

That is, despite Andreeva giving a tearful runners-up speech, as she struggled to address her team.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that Andreeva turned 19 just days ago.

What she has already achieved at such a young age is astounding, and she is only going to get better physically, technically and emotionally as she matures and spends more time on tour.
