Mirra Andreeva began her 2026 Roland Garros campaign by defeating home favourite Fiona Ferro on Sunday.
Andreeva, who was expecting a partisan crowd, defeated Ferro 6-3, 6-3 on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
The Russian, 18, will play Emiliana Arango or world number 175 Marina Bassols Ribera in the French Open second round.

As per statisticians OptaAce, this century, only Coco Gauff and Kim Clijsters have claimed more Women’s Singles main draw wins at Roland Garros as a teenager than Mirra Andreeva.
Andreeva has now won 12 Women’s Singles main-draw matches at Roland Garros, one more than Maria Sharapova did while a teenager.

Andreeva has tied Ana Ivanovic, who also won 12 matches while a teenager.
Clijsters is second on the list. The four-time major champion won 14 French Open matches while a teenager.
Coco Gauff leads all players: the American star won 15 main draw matches before turning 20 in 2024.
Andreeva, 18, would overtake Gauff’s total at this year’s Roland Garros event, should she reach at least the semi-final stage.
Andreeva reached the quarter-finals of last year’s event, before losing to French underdog Lois Boisson.

“When it’s over, after it being such an emotional match, everything just kind of lets go. You just realise you won another Grand Slam, and Roland Garros at that.”
Sharapova made her final French Open appearance in 2018, losing to Garbine Muguruza in the quarter-finals.
