Andreeva is undoubtedly a generational talent, as demonstrated by her latest feat in the French capital.

Andreeva has tied Ana Ivanovic, who also won 12 matches while a teenager.

Clijsters is second on the list. The four-time major champion won 14 French Open matches while a teenager.

Coco Gauff leads all players: the American star won 15 main draw matches before turning 20 in 2024.

Andreeva, 18, would overtake Gauff’s total at this year’s Roland Garros event, should she reach at least the semi-final stage.

Andreeva reached the quarter-finals of last year’s event, before losing to French underdog Lois Boisson.

“It’s such an emotional victory for me in my career,” Sharapova told reporters after the match. “You know, I have been in many Grand Slam finals, and every one feels very different.

“I feel like as I get older I appreciate those situations so much more.

“When it’s over, after it being such an emotional match, everything just kind of lets go. You just realise you won another Grand Slam, and Roland Garros at that.”

Sharapova made her final French Open appearance in 2018, losing to Garbine Muguruza in the quarter-finals.
