Since 2000, only six players have won the French Open women’s singles title and then lost their next match.

| 2005 | Justine Henin | Wimbledon – 1R | Eleni Daniilidou | LOSS | 6-7, 6-2, 5-7 |
Unfortunately for Andreeva, she has now followed in the footsteps of Gauff, Garbine Muguruza, Francesca Schiavone, Svetlana Kuznetsova, and Justine Henin.
All six women failed to maintain their winning runs after their Roland Garros triumphs.

Andreeva had hoped to emulate the success of Serena Williams, Iga Swiatek, and others who carried their excellent form onto the grass, but it wasn’t to be.
She will now travel to Wimbledon without a win on grass this year.
The world number five could still make a deep run at the All England Club, after all, she’s not the only big name to have struggled on grass so far this year, but it’s far from the perfect build-up she would have dreamed of.
WTA Top 10 on grass this year
- 1. Aryna Sabalenka: 2-1 (67%)
- 2. Elena Rybakina: 1-2 (33%)
- 3. Iga Swiatek: 1-0 (100%)
- 4. Jessica Pegula: 3-1 (75%)
- 5. Mirra Andreeva: 0-1 (0%)
- 6. Amanda Anisimova: 1-1 (50%)
- 7. Coco Gauff: 0-1 (0%)
- 8. Elina Svitolina: 3-1 (75%)

She will need to find some form quickly in London if she is to have any chance of doubling her Grand Slam tally next month.

Ekaterina Alexandrova reacts after knocking Mirra Andreeva out of the Bad Homburg Open
It was a bad day for Andreeva in Bad Homburg, but her opponent, Alexandrova, was delighted with the result.
The Russian number three booked her place in the Bad Homburg Open quarter-finals, securing her first top-10 win of the season.
“Every time I play her, I know it’s going to be a super difficult match, because she’s such a great player. I’m just really prepared to play every single point, and luckily, so far, it has been working out,” said Alexandrova during her on-court interview.

“It was super difficult today, especially with the weather; it’s super hot, and on the grass, you never know what to expect, every bounce is different. But overall, it was a great match for me.
“Honestly, for me, it’s always difficult to play on the grass, because I prefer more predictable conditions, like maybe hard indoor, but on the grass, everything is unexpected, but so far, somehow it’s working, so I’m just trying to enjoy my time on the grass!”
Finally, Alexandrova looked ahead to her quarter-final match, where she will meet the four-time Grand Slam champion, Naomi Osaka, who defeated Elise Mertens in the second round.
“I don’t know. I think we’ve never played together, so it’s going to be the first match,” she said.
“I know she won a lot of great matches and tournaments; it’s not going to be easy.
“So far, I don’t have any plan, the only plan is to go inside and chill, and I will try to do the same thing, play every single point, and I will try to enjoy it.”
Alexandrova and Osaka will play their quarter-final match on Thursday, June 25.
