Andy Murray claimed his third Masters 1000 title by beating Novak Djokovic in straight sets in Miami on Sunday to land the prestigious 2009 Sony Ericsson Open.

Djokovic was the latest world class player to be completely baffled by Murrays all-court game as the British No.1 came away with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at Crandon Park.

The signs that Murray would land the title were there early on as he demolished opponent after opponent on Miamis hard courts.

He lost just a single game against Serb Viktor Troicki in round four, thrashed Fernando Verdasco 6-2, 6-2 a round later and beat Juan Martin Del Potro the man whod beaten Rafael Nadal a day earlier in the semis.

The win made Murray the first British champion in Miami and moves the Scot to within 170 points of third-ranked Djokovic going into the European clay-court circuit.

Hes also the first player this season to win three ATP World Tour titles after capturing titles in Doha and Rotterdam and he has the joint-best match-wins record (with Andy Roddick) this season with a 26-2 stat (Roddick 26-5).

Hats off to the boy. We cant wait to see how he does on clay
