Matteo Berrettini recently enjoyed an excellent run to the Roland Garros quarter-finals.
Berrettini, the 2021 Wimbledon finalist, defeated Marton Fucsovics, Arthur Rinderknech, Francisco Comesana and Juan Manuel Cerundolo on his way to the last eight in Paris.
Unfortunately for the Italian, he suffered an injury issue during his quarter-final match against compatriot Matteo Arnaldi, and he was forced to withdraw from the contest while trailing 5-7, 2-5 on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Berrettini, who enjoyed his best run at a major since the 2022 US Open, has since provided tennis fans with an update on his physical condition.
Matteo Berrettini suggests he will play Wimbledon after injury scare
“Leaving Paris with a smile on my face because of the great matches I’ve played and because the scans done over the last few days didn’t detect any significant muscles injuries!” the Italian star stated in an Instagram post.
“I’m already working on my rehab with the goal of getting to Wimbledon in the best shape possible!
“Throughout these two weeks – and especially after my retirement – I felt an amount of love and support that made me once again grateful and lucky to have such a great family, team, friends and fan base behind me!”

Berrettini will now look ahead to the grass-court season – and ultimately – the Wimbledon Championships.
Berrettini has the opportunity to gain significant ranking points at this year’s event after losing in the first round at the 2025 championships.
Last year, the Italian was defeated by Kamil Majchrzak, meaning he earned only 10 ranking points in London.
This year, Berrettini will likely need to come through qualifying.
Despite being ranked 48th on the ATP Tour, Berrettini was ranked 107th when the Wimbledon entry list cut-off date passed.
The Italian is currently the third alternate for the main draw, behind Japan’s Sho Shimabukuro and Slovakia’s Alex Molcan.
Who is now the best active ATP player without a Grand Slam title after Alexander Zverev’s French Open victory?
Matteo Berrettini’s reaction after losing the 2021 Wimbledon final
Five years ago, Berrettini produced some of his best tennis to qualify for the Wimbledon final.
The Italian, seeded seventh in London, defeated the likes of Felix Auger-Aliassime and Hubert Hurkacz on his way to the championship showpiece.
Unfortunately for Italian tennis fans, Berrettini fell just short of winning his first Grand Slam title.
Novak Djokovic won his sixth title at the All England Club, beating Berrettini 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 on Centre Court.

With victory, Djokovic tied Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on 20 Grand Slam titles won.
“I have to pay tribute to Rafa and Roger,” Djokovic said afterwards. “They are legends of our sport and the two greatest players I have faced.
“They are the reason why I am where I am today. They made me realise what I had to do to get stronger – mentally, physically and tactically.
“The last 10 years have been an incredible journey that is not stopping here.”
“I mean, it’s been like a month on grass really, really great. I won Queen’s. I didn’t expect to win there. I reached the finals here,” Berrettini said during his post-match press conference.
“Is something that, like I said after I won the semis, didn’t even dream about this because it was even too much.
Have we seen the last of Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros? 😢
“Obviously now, like you said, I’m disappointed, I’m pissed because I lost, because I think I didn’t play my best match, but I have to say it’s thanks to Novak in a way that he brought me, made me play in this way. That’s his strength probably. That’s why he’s one of the best that ever did, you know?
“Congrats to him.
“Obviously for me it’s been unbelievable week, two weeks. But I know that I can do it. I know that I can win this title. I’m not sure if I’m going to do it, but I know I can do it. So that’s what I’m going to do in the next weeks, in the next months and years: try to lift the trophy.”
