Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti will leave a big hole for Italy as they look to win the Davis Cup for a third consecutive year.
Sinner opted out of the Davis Cup in October, while Musetti has followed suit after his laborious stint at the latter end of the season, which involved a final in Athens and qualification for the ATP Finals.
The Italian Davis Cup team are left with Matteo Berrettini, Flavio Cobolli, Lorenzo Sonego, as well as doubles team Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori.
Berrettini, who won the tournament with Italy in 2024, had discussed his nation’s chances without two of their star players.

Matteo Berrettini shares his thoughts on Italy’s Davis Cup chances
Despite Sinner and Musetti’s withdrawals, Berrettini is confident that Italy can challenge for yet another Davis Cup.
Speaking via Ubitennis, the Italian revealed: “The Davis Cup has always been good for me , and I think I can bring the right amount of determination to the team.
“Jannik isn’t there, Musetti is doubtful, but the great thing is that even without the two top strikers at the moment, there’s no anxiety . We all know we can do it. We’re all eager and we’re in good form.
| Italy’s Davis Cup Finals team | Ranking |
| Flavio Cobolli | 22 |
| Lorenzo Sonego | 39 |
| Matteo Berrettini | 56 |
| Andrea Vavassori | 14 (doubles) |
| Simone Bolelli | 12 (doubles |
“Bolelli and Vavassori are playing great, Cobolli had the best season of his career, and Sonego, if he comes, has shown he’s in great shape. We’re a team, we’re friends, and everything will be fine.”
Berrettini missed the 2023 edition of the tournament due to injury, but played last year’s event alongside Sinner.
Sinner revealed that he ‘promised’ Berrettini that he would play the 2024 event due to his 2023 injury. Italy beat the Netherlands in the final last year.
Who will Italy play in the Davis Cup Finals?
Italy have been drawn against Austria in the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup, which begin in Bologna on November 18.
Berrettini and co. will fancy their chances against Austria, who have the lowest-ranked singles player in the tournament.
Filip Misolic, at World No. 85, is the highest-ranked player, with Jurij Rodionov and Lukas Neumayer also selected for singles.
Lucas Miedler and Alexander Erler will compete for Austria in the doubles, but it would be a huge upset if Italy lost in the quarter-finals.
Italy will likely play France in the semi-finals, who have selected Arthur Rinderknech, Ugo Humbert, Benjamin Bonzi, and Pierre-Hughes Herbert.
Second seeds Germany could be Italy’s final opponent, with Alexander Zverev set for his first Davis Cup Finals, but Carlos Alcaraz could lead Spain to the final two.
