Matteo Berrettini began working with former world number four, Thomas Enqvist, at Indian Wells.
There, the Italian beat Adrian Mannarino in three sets before losing to Alexander Zverev in the second round.
He then travelled to Florida for the Miami Open, where he lost in the third round to Valentin Vacherot, and to Morocco for the Grand Prix Hassan II, where he lost his opener to Peru’s Ignacio Buse.
Speaking ahead of the Monte Carlo Masters, a tournament where he defends 100 ranking points, Berrettini provided an update on his coaching relationship with Enqvist.

Matteo Berrettini claims he has built the ‘perfect team’ and has ‘no doubts’ about his ranking
During an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 29-year-old said the following about Enqvist and his other coach, Alessandro Bega.
“With him and Alessandro Bega, I’ve built the perfect team to walk alongside me on the path I’ve set for myself,” said Berrettini.

“Now I’m training, and I’m happy.
“We’re all looking toward the same goal, which is to return to competitiveness at the highest levels and, at the same time, appreciate everything I’ve built over time.”
Berrettini then briefly touched on his position in the world rankings.
“In March 2024, I was ranked No. 142, so I was in a worse position… And then I returned to the top 30,” he said.

“It’s clear that at a certain point, the champion’s ego kicks in, and you ask yourself questions.
“But now I have no more doubts: I just need to be patient, which has never been my best quality.
“But with age, you become wiser.”
Berrettini sits 90th in the world rankings, with 650 points to his name.
