Martina Navratilova has praised the speed of Arthur Fery after watching him storm into the semi-final at Wimbledon.
Having received a wildcard to play at the All England Club, the Briton won his quarter-final with Flavio Cobolli in three sets.
And both Navratilova and her fellow legend Jim Courier were quick to congratulate Fery in the immediate aftermath of his latest Wimbledon upset.

Tasked with identifying Fery’s speciality, Courier said on Tennis Channel: “Well, he’s got a thirst for combat. He’s got tenacious D, and he’s opportunistic on the offense.
“The guy got into the net 29 times today, snuck in there, won 22 of them. He’s quick at the net, and he knows where to be.
“And perhaps having grown up in this environment, he’s spent enough time on the grass to actually know where to be, which is almost everything when you’re coming forward.”
Sharing her thoughts, Navratilova commented: “Yeah, and he’s got that shot selection. I mean, he’s comfortable here.
“He’s got that great outside foot defending, and then when he sees he hits a good ball, he sprints to the net.
“He’s so quick, and then he stops for the next shot. So he’s a really great athlete, well-balanced, and he knows how to play on this stuff.
“But he’s so fast moving forward. That’s maybe his best attribute.”
Fery does, however, have very little time to celebrate his latest Wimbledon feat, with Alexander Zverev now awaiting in the semi-final.
It represents the first ATP meeting between the duo, the winner of which will play in the final against either Jannik Sinner or Novak Djokovic.

Jim Courier delighted by ‘career-changing’ Wimbledon run for Arthur Fery
Sinner versus Djokovic is the most high-profile semi-final this year, with the world number one taking on the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
But Zverev versus Fery really isn’t far behind, with the former having just won the French Open and the latter looking to claim his maiden major title on home soil.
Further commenting on the dream run in London, Courier said of the Briton: “Where does it end for Arthur Fery?
“I don’t know, but it’s incredibly exciting for the locals here. He’s a guy who’s moving up in the rankings a tremendous amount.
“He’s ranked about 114 in the world coming in. He’ll be top 40 when this is over. And get this, his career prize money is about $900,000.
“Well, he’s guaranteed to make $1.2 million just in this tournament alone. So a career-changing event for him.”
| Round | Prize money |
| Champion | £3,600,000 |
| Finalist | £1,800,000 |
| Semi-finalist | £900,000 |
| Quarter-finalist | £480,000 |
| R16 | £300,000 |
| R32 | £185,000 |
| R64 | £126,000 |
| R128 | £80,000 |
Regardless of what happens against Zverev, Fery will very impressively leave Wimbledon as the new British number one.
Moreover, he’s just jumped a massive 70 places in the ATP live rankings to 26th, with his amazing run certainly not over just yet.
It all definitely piles the pressure on Zverev, with Fery also set to receive a huge boost from the massive support he will receive from the Centre Court crowd.
