Lorenzo Musetti broke new ground in 2025 by breaking into the top 10 of the ATP Tour rankings for the first time.
The star failed to win a tournament in 2025, but he did reach three finals, including his first Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo.
Musetti qualified for his first ATP Finals in November due to Novak Djokovic’s withdrawal, after the Italian finished the season as the world number nine.
After making giant strides in the rankings this season, Musetti has shared what he plans to do to continue to challenge the top players in 2026.

Musetti discussed his pre-season preparations during an interview with Gill Gross, including how he plans to challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in 2026.
“To close the gap with these two I have to work really hard physically, which I’m doing. [I’m] having a little bit more time to prepare myself and, of course, I have a new coach in my team, Jose Palas.

“I think he can bring some more tips, some more experience to my team. So, we are really working hard to start really well, especially from Australia.”
Musetti played Alcaraz four times in 2025 and lost every single match to the world number one. The Italian took the first set off the Spaniard in Monte Carlo and at Roland Garros, but couldn’t capitalise on his advantage.
As for Sinner, Musetti played his compatriot just once in the US Open quarter-final. He was quickly swept aside in straight sets.

It’s no surprise that Musetti has highlighted challenging Sinner and Alcaraz as one of his key goals for next season.
What is your bold prediction for the 2026 tennis season?
The Italian has a terrible record against both men, having notched up just one win in 11 matches against the top two players in the world.
Musetti’s sole win against Alcaraz and Sinner came back in 2022, when the Italian beat Alcaraz in the final of the Hamburg Open.
He lost seven straight matches to Alcaraz since Hamburg and he is yet to beat Sinner in their four matches since 2021.
