Li reaches first quarter-final

Li got past the 74th-ranked Cetkovska in one hour eight minutes after firing four aces and winning 74 percent of her first service points.

The second-round win for Li advances her into a match-up with Czech Lucie Safarova, who moved on after number eight Maria Kirilenko of Russia had to retire while trailing 6-4 4-1.

Li’s countrywoman, fourth-seeded Zheng Jie, defeated Hungary’s Melinda Czink 6-3 6-4 in other action.

At a career-high ranking of 18th, Zheng has not reached a championship since 2006, but made three semi-final appearances last year, including an impressive run at Wimbledon.

Seventh seed Gisela Dulko of Argentina defeated Ukrainian Mariya Koryttseva 6-2 6-4, and will move on to face Zheng.
