Konta ‘could be top 20 by Wimbledon’

Konta is at a career-high ranking of No.49 after a run to the fourth round at the US Open, and has beaten a host of top players including Simona Halep, Garbine Muguruza and Andrea Petkovic in recent weeks.

The 23-year-old is one spot off Keothavong’s best ranking of No.48, which she reached in February 2009. But Keothavong believes Konta can climb further still if she is able to stay fit and free of injury.

“I think we are looking at a potential top 20 player here,” Keothavong told the Tennis Podcast. "She can go further. She can win big titles, beat more top 10, top 5 players, and there really is no limit if she can stay injury-free and keep doing what she’s doing.

“She started the year around 150 in the rankings and doesn’t have many points to defend between now and Wimbledon next year, so top 20 by Wimbledon, if she keeps going as she is, is a real possibility.”
