Katie Boulter has suffered a torrid last year on the WTA Tour, but has shown signs of reigniting her career.
After all, winning a title earlier this month can only boost confidence, and looking ahead, there’s cause for plenty more optimism for the former British number one.
She will head to Merida next to compete in a WTA 500-level event, before preparing for the Sunshine Double and the start of the clay swing.
This should represent a golden opportunity for Katie Boulter, and she simply has to capitalise on it.
Katie Boulter could make huge rankings jump over the next few months
This time last year, Boulter’s schedule was sparse.
After losing in the second round of the Australian Open, she did not play another event until Indian Wells, where again she lost in the second round.
What is stopping Katie Boulter from staying in the WTA top 20?
Miami marked an even greater low, this time exiting in the first round. It was this poor start to the season that arguably encouraged the disappointment that followed her for the rest of the year.
However, such is the unique nature of the tennis rankings system, and last year’s failures represent golden opportunities the following year.
She now has little to no points to defend, and should Boulter enjoy a deep run in Merida, against a field where the out-of-form Jasmine Paolini and Emma Navarro are the top two seeds, Boulter could skyrocket back up the rankings before the Sunshine Double even gets underway.
Do you think women should play best-of-five set matches?
Hopefully, she can engineer another title charge and take full advantage of her struggles from 12 months ago.
How Katie Boulter’s ranking has changed over the last year
It’s been astounding to watch how Boulter’s career has nosedived over the last year, suffering early exits in almost every event she entered.
However, it is these struggles which will surely make her resurgence even more enjoyable.
She started 2025 ranked 23rd in the world, and remained inside the top 30 until late February.

Boulter then managed to stick around 35th in the world until June. Sadly, this is where her ranking really began to fall.
By mid-September, she was 54th in the world, and after ending her season at the end of October, she had dropped outside the top 100.
Fortunately, the fact that she is already now 69th in the world marks a trend in the right direction.
