Katie Boulter has weighed up Great Britain’s chances of winning the Billie Jean King Cup for the first time in history.
The British number two will compete alongside her compatriots on Wednesday when Great Britain faces Japan in the quarter-finals.
Remarkably, Great Britain have never won the Billie Jean King Cup [BJK Cup], last reaching the final in 1981.
However, Boulter and her teammates will be hoping to shatter that unfortunate statistic by going at least one step further than they did in 2024.
Boulter, who recently lost in the US Open first round, has assessed Britain’s chances of going all the way in the competition after coming agonisingly close to reaching the final in 2024.

Katie Boulter believes ‘anything is possible’
During a recent interview with the Lawn Tennis Association, Boulter highlighted the strength of the British team, pointing to the chemistry they have as a group.
The team, led by captain Anne Keothavong, will feature Boulter, Sonay Kartal, Jodie Burrage and Francesca Jones. The country secured their place in the quarter-finals after defeating Germany and the Netherlands during the BJK Cup Qualifiers.
Boulter said: “We’re in the quarter-finals now – we only need three matches.
“I believe anything is possible. We have a really strong team. I think we have a good connection between all of us.
“We’re going to put ourselves on the line and see what happens. I’m going to make a big push for it this year and I hope it makes the difference.”
For all of Boulter’s optimism, one key figure will be missing from the British squad when they face off against Japan on Wednesday.
Emma Raducanu will not feature for Great Britain
In what is a huge blow for the GB squad, British number one Emma Raducanu will not be competing in the BJK Cup Finals.
On September 5, Raducanu announced she would prioritise playing on the WTA Tour [at the Korea Open] over playing for Great Britain, to help aid the development of her new coaching partnership with Francisco Roig.
As per BBC Sport, an LTA spokesperson said: “Of course we are disappointed. However, we believe we have a great team and we’re looking forward to competing in Shenzhen.”

Alongside Great Britain and Japan, China, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and the USA will compete for the BJK Cup in Shenzhen, China.
The final will be held on September 21.
