Karolina Muchova put in yet another inspiring performance, despite her US Open campaign coming to an end at the hands of Naomi Osaka.
After all, she was once again forced to battle through injury on the biggest stage, and did so with remarkable grace.
Only afterwards did she offer up an explanation, revealing the fresh issue she picked up during that match, just days after receiving a medical timeout to receive treatment on her back.
The big-hitting Czech has been plagued with injuries throughout her entire career, but it’s almost especially painful to see it hamper someone on a stage as big as this.
Fortunately, her update was not an alarming one, although she could point out the exact moment where the new ailment emerged.
Karolina Muchova provides injury update after losing at the US Open
Speaking at her post-match press conference, reacting to her defeat to Osaka, she was asked about her fitness.
Muchova openly admitted: “I honestly don’t know.
“I think it was like third game, third or fifth. I just stepped, like a little rolling, ugly, ugly move, and I don’t know what it is.
“I think it’s just something with a muscle. It’s hopefully not going to take me long to heal, but yeah, it limited me a little bit on the court, but I played pretty long matches a year and that for sure didn’t help me, so, yeah.”
Muchova named Osaka’s biggest strength before the clash, and she certainly felt the full force of her arsenal as the Japanese star cruised into the US Open semi-final.
Karolina Muchova is getting closer to Grand Slam glory
Although she is never really discussed at length when naming favourites for Grand Slam titles, Muchova is a consistent threat.
After all, she is a finalist once before, and a three-time semi-finalist too.

With incredible power and exceptional variety, the 29-year-old has the capabilities to, when fit, hit anyone off the court.
The issue is that her fitness is not reliable enough to make her a consistent threat.
Hopefully, now that the Grand Slam season has concluded, Muchova can focus on recovery, play a reduced schedule, and return ready to make a concentrated push for further success in 2026.
