John McEnroe is rooting for one player in particular in the women’s singles tournament at Roland Garros this year.
The women’s singles draw at Roland Garros is wide open this year, with a number of players seen as contenders for the title.
Some of those contenders have already fallen in Paris, with the likes of Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula already out of Roland Garros.
The likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff still remain in the draw, but McEnroe is backing another top 10 player.

John McEnroe wants Elina Svitolina to win Roland Garros this year
McEnroe was asked to make his predictions for the women’s singles title when speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion claimed that Sabalenka, Swiatek and Gauff are all equal for him, but McEnroe was hoping that it would actually be world number seven Elina Svitolina who would take the title.
Svitolina won the Italian Open coming into Roland Garros this year, and McEnroe believes it would be the best story, particularly as she receives a lot of support as Gael Monfils’ wife.
“It’ll be a very open tournament: I think Sabalenka, Swiatek, and Gauff are starting on equal terms,” said McEnroe. “Rybakina’s loss was a big surprise, but there are at least a dozen other players who can go all the way.
“I hope Svitolina wins, though; it would be the best story of the tournament. She plays aggressive tennis and seems to me to be the most mentally equipped of all. And then the French will be cheering for her after her husband Monfils left the tournament.”
