Joao Fonseca is no longer the youngest star inside the ATP Tour top 50 after another teenager took the Brazilian’s record.
The Brazilian had produced a breakout year in 2025, reaching the third round of Roland Garros and Wimbledon over the summer.
The teenager shone at the Laver Cup, becoming the youngest star to pick up a victory in the history of the tournament after he defeated Flavio Cobolli.
Fonseca’s questionable decision to skip the Asian leg has seen another teenager swoop in and replace him as the youngest star in the top 50.

Learner Tien surpasses Joao Fonseca as the youngest player in the top 50
Learner Tien’s performances at the China Open have ensured the star will enter the ATP Tour top 50 when the rankings refresh.
The American has had a tournament to remember in Beijing, defeating Francisco Cerundolo, Cobolli, and Lorenzo Musetti to reach the final four of the competition.
Tien has a guaranteed 200 ranking points coming his way after the China Open, which could surge to 330 if he beats either Daniil Medvedev or Alexander Zverev in the semi-final.
The 19-year-old American has enjoyed similar success to Fonseca in his debut year on the ATP Tour, with a fourth-round appearance at the Australian Open proving his best Grand Slam run of 2025.
Tien is the youngest player in the China Open since Rafael Nadal’s run to the final four at the age of 19 in 2006.
The youngest players in the ATP Tour top 50
Tien and Fonseca are the only teenagers in the ATP Tour top 50, but there are several young stars asserting themselves in tennis.
20-year-old Jakub Mensik is currently World No. 19 in the rankings, while 21-year-old Arthur Fils holds the World No. 23 spot despite his current injury.
Carlos Alcaraz, Holger Rune, and Ben Shelton are all in the top 20 of the rankings at the age of 22-years-old, while Italians Cobolli and Luciano Darderi are in the top 50 at the age of 23.
While the likes of Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev dominate the top 10, the future of tennis is clearly bright.
