Taylor Fritz is one of tennis’ most analytical minds and seems to actively enjoy breaking down his matches.
He is one of very few left in the game with this kind of keen eye for evaluation, particularly since the rule was brought in to allow on-court coaching.
It narrowed the autonomy of the sport, and left the American frustrated.
Fortunately, his success has not been hampered too much by this alteration, with some of the best results of his career having come in the last few years.

Taylor Fritz will still have grand aspirations to finally win a Grand Slam title, but will also be acutely aware that time is running out.
This year’s Wimbledon represents one of his best opportunities in recent memory, but if he is to do so, he will have to bypass the sport’s newest major champion in Alexander Zverev.
Jim Courier reveals Taylor Fritz’s huge advantage over Alexander Zverev
Chatting with Tennis Channel, Fritz was first asked about what in his game he felt needed improvement.
Whilst he admitted it was ‘tough to say’, he eventually suggested: “I think the last few matches I’ve played, there hasn’t been a lot of rhythm, so it’s actually tough to evaluate my play from the baseline, because there hasn’t been a lot of it.
“But, you know, in general, I think I’m doing a lot of things as good as I needed to do them to put myself in positions to win matches. It’s just gonna come down to if I can play well in those big moments.
“And today I did a really good job of playing well in the big points.”
Then, discussing the prospect of facing Zverev in the next round, whom he boasts a fine recent record against, Fritz added: “I just think that the patterns… I think we play kind of similar in a lot of ways, and obviously, the serves kind of balance each other out.
Who is now the best active ATP player without a Grand Slam title after Alexander Zverev’s French Open victory?
“I feel like I tend to do a good job getting a good amount of returns in the court with my reach. But, I mean, being said that it’s seven [straight wins], a lot of them have been very close and can go either way. I feel like I’ve kind of just been the one that has been winning a lot of the important points and playing well in a lot of the decisive moments of the match.
“Yeah, I don’t think there’s anything particular.”
Jim Courier interjected at this point, disagreeing with that final statement. He instead suggested: “Oh no. There is. It’s the forehand. Your forehand is better than his. He’s too modest to say that, but I’m not.”
Martina Navratilova echoed that sentiment: “It matches up well on the backhand, but your forehand is better.”
Danielle Collins recently explained why she thinks Zverev struggles against Fritz so much. It will be interesting to see whether her claim is further reinforced after this upcoming match.
Taylor Fritz’s incredible head-to-head record against Alexander Zverev
It’s rare that, at the apex of the sport, one elite player can have such an overwhelming record against a fellow top-ten rival.
However, that is exactly the case with Fritz, who has only ever been ranked above Zverev once, due to an injury to the new Roland Garros champion, in his entire career.
| Year | Event | Round | Winner |
| 2026 | Halle Open | Final | Taylor Fritz |
| 2025 | Laver Cup | Round Robin | Taylor Fritz |
| 2025 | Stuttgart Open | Final | Taylor Fritz |
| 2024 | Nitto ATP Finals | Semi-final | Taylor Fritz |
| 2024 | Laver Cup | Round Robin | Taylor Fritz |
And yet, it is a match-up that so dramatically favours him.
He has won his last seven matches against the German, last losing to him over two years ago.
Fritz therefore leads their head-to-head, with ten wins and just five losses.
