Jessica Pegula secured her place in the Wuhan Open semi-finals, but she continued a strange record in China.

Pegula celebrated becoming the oldest Wuhan Open quarter-finalist by defeating Katerina Siniakova in the last eight.

The American will play World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the Wuhan Open semi-final as she closes in on WTA Finals qualification.

Despite Pegula’s fine form in China, the star has earned an unwanted eight-match streak which has nothing to do with wins and losses.

Jessica Pegula of the United States celebrates her 7-5, 3-6, and 6-3 win against Ekaterina Alexandrova in the Women's Singles Round of 16 match during day six of the 2025 Wuhan Open at Optics Valley International Tennis Center on October 9, 2025 in Wuhan, China.

Jessica Pegula has dropped a set in her last eight matches

Pegula reached the final of the China Open in Beijing and she’s followed it up with another impressive run in Wuhan.

The American has won seven of her last eight matches, but she’s managed to pick up a strange statistic en route.

Pegula has dropped a set in her last eight matches, meaning all but one of her matches in Beijing and Wuhan have gone to a decider.

The star has shown incredible resolve against the likes of Emma Raducanu and Emma Navarro by coming back from one set down.

Pegula even saved match points against Raducanu, but she will surely need to stop dropping so many sets if she wants to challenge for the major tournaments.

Jessica Pegula comments on her strange streak

Pegula’s mammoth three-set matches have not been lost on her and she opened up about the feat after defeating Alexandrova in the third round.

“I can’t remember the last time I played two sets,” Pegula said after her latest victory at the Wuhan Open. “But I’ve been competing really hard and I’ve been playing a lot of really good players.

“It was different conditions today with the roof closed and I think it took us a little while to get adjusted, but then I felt like it was a really high level there for the rest of the match.”

Pegula and Sabalenka will collide on October 11, with the order of play yet to be confirmed by the tournament.
