Jessica Pegula’s excellent run to the US Open semi-final was enhanced by a present she was given after her defeat to Aryna Sabalenka.

Pegula narrowly lost to Sabalenka in the US Open semi-final, falling to a deciding set to the World No. 1, 6-4.

Nerves cost Pegula against Sabalenka, but it’s still the best performance for the American at a Grand Slam.

The World No. 6 revealed the present she was given after her journey to the final four of her home Grand Slam.

Jessica Pegula was gifted a ‘big box’ of sweets after US Open loss

Pegula appeared on her podcast, The Player’s Box podcast, alongside Madison Keys, Jenny Brady, and Des Krawczyk, to discuss the tournament.

After talking about her defeat to Sabalenka, the American revealed what she did straight after the loss to the World No. 1.

“So, I went to media and I was like, ‘Lollipop.” I actually was very good [for the rest of the tournament]. I didn’t really eat any of the candy, pretty much the whole time I was there for whatever reason. But I shoved a couple of those in my pocket.”

Her love of sweets paid off after the company saw her eating the confectionery on her social media.

“And then they actually, Chris, my agent, sent me a screenshot, and they are sending me a big box of Root Beer Dum Dums,” revealed Pegula. “So, in other news, at least something good came out of that.”

Pegula’s previous best performance at a Grand Slam before the 2025 US Open was the quarter-finals at the Australian Open, Roland Garros, and Wimbledon.

Jessica Pegula rises two places in the WTA Tour rankings

Pegula’s performances at the US Open have settled her tour ranking after an inconsistent time on the tour.

The American crashed out of Wimbledon in the first round and followed it up with two third-round exits at the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open.

The star was defending finalist points in Cincinnati, but she’s balanced the points loss with her performance at Flushing Meadows.

Pegula now stands at World No. 6 in the WTA Tour rankings, nestled between Mirra Andreeva and Keys.
