Jessica Pegula has opened up on her career urgency after finding superb form at the age of 32.

Pegula claimed three WTA titles in 2025, more than any other season, while she has already secured two this year.

The American has also risen to number four in the world rankings, and is currently on an impressive run at Wimbledon.

Pegula is now into the fourth round at the All England Club, where she was asked if she ever thinks about urgency in her career.

Jessica Pegula disagrees with what people have told her about her career

Pegula said after beating Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in round three: “Yeah, I mean, I definitely do. It was funny, I think one thing I was saying earlier this year is everyone always tells you, ‘Oh, you have so much time, you’re young’.

“I, like, kind of don’t agree. It goes by so fast. It’s, like, snap your fingers. And I was 25 with people telling me that. Then now I’m 32 and I’m like, ‘Oh, that went really fast’. It feels like it flew by.

“Not that, like, you should be thinking you’re in a rush, but I kind of like the opposite thought process right now. So I definitely have thought about that.

“I also think, too, being married, thinking if you want kids and stuff like that, I think that’s something around 30 years old that you’re really thinking about because it does affect your career.

“So yeah, I mean, I think about it. I think when I turned 30, I was a little bit more pressed about it. Now I’m kind of just like it’s fine.

“I think it will work out the way that it works out, whether that’s me winning a Slam, whether I don’t win a Slam, whether that’s when I retire, decide to start a family or none of those things.

“Whatever kind of happens happens. It’s definitely something that has crossed my mind. You can’t really look at it as so much pressure.

“I think it’s just knowing where you are, where you’re at, being content with that, just letting it unfold with what you want to do.”

How do you rate Jessica Pegula’s chances of ever winning a Grand Slam?

She was then asked: “Do you think people were telling you that at 25 because you were a late-bloomer, they were trying to get you to relax?”

Pegula replied: “Yeah, but I feel like that happened, too, when I was ranked like right outside the top 100 and I was 22. It was the same thing.

“Everyone just always tells you, ‘Oh, you have so much time. Like you have so much time, you have so much time’.

“I didn’t feel like that much time. Things start moving fast. Next thing I know, you guys are asking me this question.

“I don’t know. But, I mean, I find myself doing the same thing with other girls too. Oh, my gosh, they’re like 18, 19 years old.

“They have so much time. So much time. I wonder if for them it’s going to fly by as fast as it felt like it has for me.”

Jessica Pegula vs Iva Jovic head-to-head before Wimbledon clash

Pegula is now an 11-time champion on the WTA Tour, but the American superstar has yet to claim a Grand Slam title.

She came agonizingly close on home soil in 2024, losing the US Open final to familiar foe Aryna Sabalenka.

They could be reunited at Wimbledon, but first Pegula must get past one of the 18-year-olds she may have just been referring to.

She faces compatriot Iva Jovic in the fourth round of the tournament, with her teenage opponent having enjoyed a rapid rise to the WTA top 20.

History is, however, very much on the side of Pegula, who has triumphed in their previous two WTA encounters.

Notably, both of those arrived this year, and both were followed by Pegula lifting the trophy in Dubai and Charleston.
